Our approach We re-peak the dish on a satellite signal meter, not by eye, and replace lightweight brackets with four-point anchored versions. Where the wall is exposed we add a brace or move the dish behind a gable end.

Water ingress in the LNB

Why it happens Winter rain and temperature swings cause condensation inside cheaper LNBs. Once water gets in, signal drops on one or both polarities and the fault gets worse over weeks. It is the single most common hardware failure we see in this area.

Our approach We fit sealed, SABS approved LNBs and re-seal every F-connector with self-amalgamating tape. If the LNB is fine we say so and look elsewhere rather than selling you a part you do not need.

Signal loss on long cable runs

Why it happens Large estate homes often have 50m or more of coax between the dish and the decoder cupboard. Cheap cable and push-on connectors lose signal over that distance, especially on higher frequencies, so some channels pixelate while others are fine.

Our approach We use copper-core RG6 coaxial cable, crimp every connector, and fit a line amplifier where the run justifies it. We measure signal at the decoder, not just at the dish, so the fix is proven end to end.

Older decoders failing in cottages

Why it happens Many De Zalze farm cottages and rental units still run Pace or Telefunken decoders that are well past their design life. Power supplies fail, tuners drift, and the unit freezes in hot weather. Repair is sometimes possible, replacement often makes more sense.

Spring

September and October bring gusty south-easterlies that test every bracket on the estate. Dishes that survived winter often drift out of alignment now, and we see a spike in E48-32 calls.

Tip Book a signal check before the wind picks up. A 20-minute re-peak in spring is cheaper than an emergency call-out in December.

Summer

Hot, dry and windy. Heat stresses older decoder power supplies, and dust plus wind can work connectors loose on exposed dishes. Afternoon picture breakup on some channels is the classic summer symptom.

Tip Keep decoder cupboards ventilated and clear of clutter. If your decoder is hot to the touch, get it checked before it fails completely.

Fall

March to May is the best window for new installations and upgrades. The weather is stable, access is easy, and we can spend the time to route cabling neatly before winter rain arrives.

Tip If you have been putting off a dual view or OpenView install, autumn is the time. You will be watching it through winter rather than waiting for a gap in the rain.

Winter

Cold fronts bring heavy rain and north-westerly wind. Water ingress in LNBs and connectors is the main winter fault, along with dishes shifting in the gusts. Signal loss in bad weather is the number one call we get from June to August.

Tip Check that your LNB and connectors are sealed before the first big front. If your picture already drops in rain, the fault is there and winter will make it permanent.
